Welcome to the National Gallery Picture Library

About Us

Founded in 1824, the National Gallery’s collection has more than 2,600 paintings across 800 years of art, from early medieval Europe to Italian Renaissance and Post Impressionists.

Photography of the collection at the National Gallery is carried out by a team of highly skilled fine art photographers utilising state-of-the-art camera systems and techniques, motorised easels and lighting in specialist studios. Photographs are precisely calibrated to ensure colour accuracy and exceed international standards for image quality.

National Gallery Global is the wholly owned trading subsidiary of the National Gallery and we are licensed by the National Gallery to make available these images for commercial use. Our Picture Library team has an extensive knowledge of the collection and can help you find what you are looking for.

We are open for business Monday–Friday 8am–4pm, and the team is regularly monitoring emails.
